After much thought and deliberation, I finally bit the bullet. I ended up with the phone I always said was an unnecessary accessory...
I still think it is, though the trouble of moving files around, syncing, browsing apps, and other stuff one does with a phone these days is suddenly non-existent as expected, right out of the box, initially, everything just works with all our devices and computers. But more than that, given it's relatively steep SRP, I hope this erm, thing lasts longer than the other bullshit mobiles that not only feel plasticky (because they are) seem to have a very short lifespan with me, despite the fact that I barely even do anything on them but SMS, phone calls, and the very rare instances I need to check my mail immediately and all I have on me is a phone.
That said, I hope this ends the a large part of the aggravation involved in the unfortunate life of needing a mobile phone. I was actually already quite happy with just the iPad, then again, I don't have any pants with a pocket big enough for it.
