Thirty-six years.
This number holds some personal significance to me, but who really cares about my shit? Thirty six years ago today, two great men who were (arguably) so athletically equal to each other, that around this time in the morning, they began what would be later referred to as (one of) if not the most brutal fight in the history of the sport.
A whole lot of people, the baby boomers in particular that are inclined to the sport (and were actually there) usually become quite emotional when this discussion comes about, usually after several rounds of drinks.

I can understand that the rumors, stories behind the scenes, and the usually vicious, and comical antics that Muhammad Ali employed against Joe Frazier outside the ring leading to the fight must have been quite gripping.
But as emotional and as interesting the story is behind the the two boxers are, I'd have to say, it was (in my opinion) one of the greatest matches I have ever seen (on tape, of course) as I was preoccupied with seeing the world for the first time when it was all happening.
